So they’ve booted out the DG of the Rangers now that the street protests in Karachi and across Sindh province have run into this week. It’s not just the latest round of extra judicial slayings and in particular, the gunning down of Sarfaraz Shah, it’s the entire ethos of the paramilitaries- which is, as any Muhajir will tell you- sectarian in nature.
The removal of the DG is windowdressing. It will also be so until the ethos of the Rangers as the guardians of Pakistani unity in the face of these wretched Muhajirs changes. In a city like Karachi, the continued presence of these testosterene pumped trigger happy boot boys is only going to lead to more death, in a city where the gun fire never seems to fade.
